What are specific register and source checks?
Specific source and register checks are part of the background check process, used to gather information from authoritative and industry-specific databases. The purpose is to retrieve relevant data to confirm the candidate's information or identify potential risk. This may include questionnaires or automated searches to determine whether the candidate is a Politically Exposed Person (PEP) or listed in sanction registers that could affect their suitability for a role.
What is the purpose?
This check is used to:
- Detect sanctions or restrictions
- Screen for political exposure
- Clarify potential conflicts of interest, financial risk, or legal limitations
It is especially relevant for roles involving high trust, financial responsibility, or regulatory requirements.
How is the check conducted?
We perform automated searches across reputable national and international sources, including:
- Consolidated international sanctions lists
- Relevant PEP databases
- Public sources that are regularly updated
The specific sources used are not listed in the report but can be shared with the client upon request.
We do not collect information from social media, closed registers, or unofficial sources.
What is a PEP?
PEP stands for Politically Exposed Person — a term for individuals who hold or have recently held a prominent public position, either in Norway or internationally. These individuals may be at greater risk of undue influence, corruption, or conflicts of interest.
Examples of PEPs include:
- Government ministers, parliamentarians, and heads of state
- Judges in high courts
- Ambassadors and senior diplomats
- Executives in state-owned enterprises
- Senior military or political leaders
The definition also includes close family members (spouse, children, parents).
Candidate self-declaration
As part of the check, the candidate completes a questionnaire in the portal, where they are asked to state:
- Whether they currently hold a public or political role
- Whether close family members hold such roles
- Whether they have ties to individuals in positions of power
This information is included in the assessment and compared with the findings.
What is checked?
The following is reviewed:
- Whether the candidate appears in relevant sanctions or watch lists
- Whether the candidate holds a position classified as politically exposed (PEP)
- Whether there are other factors relevant to the employer’s reputation, compliance, or security
We do not assess severity. We simply document any matches or relevant data.
It is up to the employer to decide what is significant for the role.
What is reported?
The report delivered to the client includes:
- Whether the candidate is found in one or more registers
- Information from the candidate’s own PEP declaration
- Status: Completed, Note (if there are hits or uncertainties), or Not completed
📌 Details about which sources were searched can be shared upon request.
Manymore does not evaluate the candidate’s suitability — that is the client’s responsibility
